We are proud to announce that January 24, 2024, Chef Hardette was selected as a 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: South That same evening, this website crashed and some of the info is out of order. Please be patient with us until we can recover the files and get it up to date. In the meantime, join us for Sunday dinner February 4, 12:00-5pm. The Us Up North Kitchen does not have normal restaurant hours, only pop-ups and private booked culinary experiences. However, we are working hard on being open more days a week soon. The Food

The other cuisines are meat and protein focused. Northern Louisiana’s cuisine is focused on the vegetables and crops indigenous to the region. We love our side dishes.

The Preparation

Emphasis is on simplicity and a reflection on how most of us Up North grew up having foods cooked at home. We believe in fresh ingredients, flavor, and foods found right in our backyard.

The People

The people of Northern Louisiana are as diverse as anywhere else in the state. What makes us so unique is that our foodways are a rich influence of multiple ethnicities and cultures and their influence on what we eat and how we eat it.

House Concurrent Resolution No. 88

On May 4, 2015, House Concurrent Resolution No. 88 was enrolled and signed by the Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives and the President of the Louisiana State Senate recognizing the culinary uniqueness of Northern Louisiana and designated an official meal…the only official meal in the state.

When I say we ate a lot of food during our trip to Shreveport-Bossier ~ Louisiana’s Other Side , I mean we ate a LOT of food. An ungodly amount of food. Bellies full 24/7 kind of situation. And it was all so dang good! From beignets to crawfish to stuffed shrimp to gumbo to fried catfish to king cake and everything in between…you name it, we tried it. Scroll through for a mini tour of some of the delicious Louisiana cuisine we got to experience during our time in Shreveport-Bossier!
